    Training camp in Mallorca

I’m on a training camp in Mallorca now and really enjoying being out here.

It’s a 2 week training camp with some of the British team and its great training with everyone.

I love being abroad and training outside with the sun shining!

I’m hoping to have a really solid block of training because my asthma seems to be much better since I started the medication 2 weeks ago and my ribs are not popping out so hopefully I am over the worst of it finally.

I’ll let you all know how it has gone when I get back.

    Trials…..

Just got back to Loughborough from a really nice break at home in Yorkshire and about to start training again. It was really good to go home and spend some time with the family.

This year has been a mix of emotions so far. Commonwealth Trials was a really hard week for me but to qualify for both the Europeans and Commonwealths was a massive relief and I was really happy with that.

I found the week really challenging, with my asthma and ribs causing massive problems but things like that can really make you stronger.

I had loads of support at the event and would like to thank all the supporters that came to watch. I have never seen the pool so full of supporters which is great for swimming as a sport.

I am also very greatful to my sponsors Cirrus Healthcare, Gatotrade and adidas who have all been hugely supportive during the last few months. The messages of support from them made me feel very lucky to have such a great team around me.

I am hoping over the next few weeks I will get my asthma sorted and start on new medication which should make a massive difference.

A training camp coming up in the next few weeks in Majorca is very exciting!  Training with the rest of the British team is great fun and something I really look forward to. There will be sun too yey!

I will keep you updated with how my asthma goes and any performances I put in over the next few months.

    best wishes, Jo

    blog – My last week….

    My last week….

I travelled down to Swansea last Friday 19th Feb to compete in the GBR vs Germany meet.

I was really excited about racing some of the best swimmers in the world and it was really great that the Germans had come over to race us.

GB had a really strong team with the likes of Liam Tancock, Lizzy Simmonds, Dave Davies and Beck Adlington competing.

I had the 400 on the first day and was really pleased with how I swam. Having had such disrupted training over the winter and the early part of this year because of being ill a few times I am improving every week.

The GB team had a really successful first day and was ahead on points.

The second day went just as well for us as a team and we won 207 points to 109 points.

It was a great meet to compete at but the thing that stood out most for us was how amazing the crowd were. They were really supportive and it was great that people came out to watch us.

    Thanks Swansea!

The next big event for us is the National Championships at Pond’s Forge in Sheffield from 29th March to 3rd April.

You can buy tickets at http://www.swimming.org if you’d like to come and support the team!

    My First Post

As this is my first blog on my new website I thought it would be good to briefly look back over the last couple of years……which have been amazing! My swimming has just gone from strength to strength and after winning bronze at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing last year got even better and was the highlight of my career so far.

My season started and ended breaking World Records. In Sheffield in March I broke the 400m free long course world record and broke the 400m free short course world record in Leeds in September. Then in between I won 3 medals at the world championships in Rome. It was a massive improvement from the year before and i enjoyed every minute of it.

So after such a great year I’m really looking forward to the year ahead starting with Commonwealth trials in Sheffield at the end of March.

I haven’t had a great winters training though with illness and injuries but now I’m back fighting fit and into hard training.

It’s going to be a really busy year but I’ll keep you updated on how things are going and how I get on.
