Heading out to world champs camp

Here i go again, off on my travels. This time i am heading out to the world championships, which are being held in Shanghai.

First we are heading out to Osaka for a 10 day holding camp with the rest of the British swim team. I am so excited about getting out there and finishing off my preparations for the world championships. Once i get out to Osaka i will start tapering which i am really looking forward to. It means i get to start coming down in meters in the pool and i will cut my gym program right down. I love this time of year as i start feeling really good in the water and super fast!!! I love being in the holding camp with the rest of the team, we get to catch up with everyone and we normally have a few quiz nights. Everyone gets very competitive.

After the holding camp we will then head to Shanghai. I start competing on the 3rd day of the meet, which is the 200 freestyle. its going to be a very different experience to the last world champs. In Rome i was swimming nearly everyday and had a multiple of events, in Shanghai i will just have the 200m and 4×200. Its quite nice to only have a couple of events to focus on. I am really looking forward to getting in there and racing the best people in the world. Its a great stepping stone leading into the olympic games.

I will keep you updated on how things go and will be updating twitter as much as i can.

    It’s been a while……

So its been quite a roller coaster of a ride these last few months but things are definitely on the up, which am pleased to say.

After the trials in Manchester i decided i needed a change so decided to move coaches. This was totally my decision and the reason for this was just because i wanted something new and some different training. I am still in Loughborough but now training with Ben Titley. I have the most amazing group and love training with them. I can definitely feel the benefits already. I also have started biking to training, which is different for me but great when the sun is shining, not so much when it rains!

I have recently come back from a British Swimming training in camp in Cyprus. It was great to get some training done outside with the sun shining on your back. Got some really good work done out there and was great to train with some different people.

I have a few trips coming up which i am looking forward to. I head out to Barcelona in a week to do the Mare Nostrum, then come back for the 2nd stage of the world trials, where i am hoping to qualify for the World Championships in Shanghai. After trials i head out to Rome to do an international meet there. I am really looking forward to that as its the pool where the world championships were held in 2009. It will bring back some great memories for me. It is one of my favorite pools.

I will let you know how i got on in these meets. Hopefully my next blog will be all good news.

    Happy New Year

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

I got to go home for 3 days which was great. It doesn’t seem long but it was so nice just to see all my family and chill out. I got spoilt lots this year and got loads of amazing presents. I got the new Jamie Oliver cook book so I’ve been trying out some of his recipe’s. They are so tasty!

Training has been going really well. We had some really tough sets leading up to Christmas but it was really rewarding finishing them. I go to the Gold Coast, Australia on the 4th January for 5 weeks. I am so excited. 5 weeks in the sun is something to really look forward to, especially with the weather is like it is here at the moment.

It will be great to get some good hard training in whilst enjoying being in the sun. I’m also excited about training with some girls too! At the moment I’m always training with the boys so it will be good to have some female company. Gemma Spofforth and Steph Proud are coming over from Florida to train with us so can’t wait for that.

I will let you know how it goes.

Hope you all had a great new year and all the best for 2011

    What a year!

I am now back from Commonwealths Games with lots of mixed emotions.

I was so pleased to be apart of the team and enjoyed the experience of been there. It was a really tough week getting ill and trying to compete but I gave all my swims 100% and thats all I can ask of myself.

I didn’t really know what to expect from my week in India so to come away with a bronze medal in the 4×200m was great. Obviously I was disappointed to not get a medal in my individual events but took a lot of positives from my performances.

Its been a really tough year for me but has made me a lot more determined for next year and I will be back fighting for that podium position.

I would like to thank everyone for their support over the last year, the amount of support messages I got at the Commonwealths was unbelievable and I am so grateful for them.

Special thanks to my sponsors Gatorade, Cirrus Healthcare and adidas, they have been great to me and have supported me through my highs and lows, which is what you want in a sponsor. It’s so nice to know I have people backing me the whole way.

I am now on a 2 week break and off on my holidays to New York and Las Vegas soon which I am really looking forward to. It will be so nice to just chill out and get myself mentally and physically ready for starting my training again for next year.

I have now arrived in Doha after a really good trip in Cyprus.

The weather was so good and I was really pleased with how my training went.

Now that I have arrived in Doha I will start to taper for Commonwealths, which I am looking forward to. Its such a good feeling when you start resting and get ready to race.

The hotel in Doha is amazing and it was great to finally meet up with the rest of the team. We even had chocolates on are bed when we arrived!

We are in Doha for 10 days then we head over to India and into the village.

I’ll let you know what its like when I arrive there.

    Pre Commonwealths training camp

Heading out to Cyprus with my training group for a pre commonwealth training camp. Really looking forward to getting a bit of outdoor training in before commonwealths.

I am in Cyprus for 10days then we travel to Doha for a week before going to Deli and entering the village. I am starting to get really excited about seeing the village and competing. I will be competing in the 200, 400 and 4×200fc out in Deli.

Training has been going really well recently and really happy with my progress since Europeans. I am not really sure what to expect out there but i am looking forward to getting in there and racing against the best people in the world.

I will keep you updated on how things go and will let you know what India is like and the village and pool.

    Back from Cyprus training camp

Arrived back in Loughborough on Sunday night after a really successful training camp in Cyprus.

It was an enjoyable trip and the training went well. Did some really tough training sets with my times improving throughout which is great. Feeling very excited about how things are going.

Another exciting thing was picking up my brand new Audi A5 on Monday, I absolutely love it!!  Went to Harrogate for the day to pick it up and had a really fun day.

Less then 2 weeks to go now to the European Championships in Budapest. It’s going to be great to be racing again so I’m looking forward to getting on the plane out there.

I won’t be tapering for this event though due to Commonwealth’s later in the year, but it will be really good to race against Europe’s best and to see where I am bearing in mind the probelms I’ve had over the winter.

I will keep you updated on how it goes out there.

Now out in Cyprus on a training camp and loving being out in the sun. Been to this resort a few times on training camps before and I love this place.

The hotel is amazing and the 50m pool is about a 2 minute walk away, can’t get much better than that!

We are out here for 2 1/2 weeks then its not long until Europeans.

Really looking forward to getting some hard training in prior to these and then racing. Got a really busy few months coming up with that then Commonwealths, which is my main focus for this year.

Had a really good afternoon in Norwich last week meeting the North Norfolk Crawlers, a really nice family who are doing a ‘Double Crossing’ (there and back!) of the English channel in August.

I presented them with a cheque that my generous sponsor Cirrus Healthcare very kindly donated to them as sponsorship.

Its amazing what they are doing and I wish them all the luck.

    Cirrus Healthcare support charity

My sponsor Cirrus Healthcare are sponsoring the North Norfolk Crawlers who will be attempting a double crossing of the English channel in August.

Amazing challenge! It’s hard enough in a swimming pool!

Good on them and I’m looking forward to meeting them tomorrow (30th June 2010) in Norwich to present the cheque on behalf of Cirrus.

    Good luck guys.

    Scottish Nationals this week

Heading up to Scottish Nationals this week after a really good few weeks of training. Things have been really looking up for me and training has been improving everyday and I am really positive about the ways things are going.

I haven’t had any ribs popping out so that’s definitely a bonus!!

The meet in Scotland is not really about times for me, just racing hard and seeing where things are. It will be the first time I have raced since March so really looking forward to it.

After Scottish Nationals I’ve got a weeks training in Loughborough, then heading out to Cyprus for a 2 week training camp with my group I train with. I am really looking forward to training outdoors and getting in some good work prior to Europeans, which are coming around really fast.

I will let you no how I get on in Glasgow soon.
